I’ve often heard about the importance of forgiveness and how it primarily benefits the forgiver. Yet, it’s only in my tender adulthood that I’ve come to truly understand its profound benefits. As Beyoncé aptly puts it:
Listening to this song repeatedly helped me realise the necessity of keeping my focus on the bigger picture. Holding onto past hurts is a futile act that only hampers personal growth and happiness.
Recently, I’ve had the remarkable experience of reviving past friendships. In my blog post Before You Call Me Friend – Know This…, I share about a season I refer to as the ‘Friendship Massacre’. Life has since presented me with opportunities to reconnect with my most prominent former friends, which felt like a divine occurrence.
These encounters have allowed us to reconnect as more mature and emotionally intelligent individuals, have honest and vulnerable conversations, and explore the rebuilding of our friendships.
It’s amazing how much your perspective changes once you decide what’s truly important and choose to focus on that. There was a time when proving my correctness and receiving respect for it was paramount to me. Now, my priority is ensuring that the people in my life know and feel the love I have for them.
I’d also love to leave you with this scripture that reminds us of the efforts we must make to maintain our relationships:
Forgiveness has not only allowed me to heal but also to foster deeper and more meaningful connections. By focusing on love and understanding, we can create harmony in our relationships and in our lives.
Yours in forgiveness and growth,
Aphsie ♡
