Navigating this has definitely been one of the most challenging things I’ve ever encountered so far, and for multiple reasons really…
As difficult as this has proven to be, I must note that the process of growing up (re-inventing my identity, establishing my own set of beliefs and ethics) has really eased the burden of navigating #ChurchCulture 💎
It is always a good idea to define a concept before sharing your opinions on it – just to make sure that we’re all in-par with what it actually means… 👌🏾
It is so unfortunate that the culture of the church, very often, has less to do with the individuals who ‘belong’ to the church, and is established instead by the church leaders 🙃
Side Note: in the good old days the church was led by Spirit-led individuals who were ordained by the high priests, now it seems that the possession of money and power is what affords you this honour 👑
Have you ever attended a church service and found yourself repeatedly asking: “who are we praising here?” – I have… 🙋🏾♀️
As a matter of fact, because I wasn’t happy/satisfied/proud with the answer to my question – I stopped attending church ⛪️
Of course when I first did this I encountered a lot of fiery judgement and constant attempts at guilt-shaming me, but I had finally reached my boiling point and saw no reason to continue to attend church. It’s one thing to gather every Sunday and sing: “Jesus at the centre of it all…” and it’s a totally different story to ACTUALLY practice making Jesus the central focus of your existence 🙏🏾
When I reached a point where I could no longer exist in a space where what was being preached was not what was being practised is when I realised that I am now a grown woman 💁🏾♀️
I have since made it my business to first understand a church’s culture and vision, before deciding if I’m the right fit for it’s congregation.
Only you have the authority to decide which culture you subscribe to and it’s about time you meet your power. Do you subscribe to the #ChurchCulture?
Yours – but mine first,
Aphsie ♡
That was a beautiful read.
Indeed classism is real on churches.
I full agree with you. Decide what you wish to subscribe to
& it’s so unfortunate, it goes against ALL that the Christ’s church stands for 💔
Thanks for reading boo❣️
I’m so proud and inspired by your courage to stand for what you believe in. A time has come where we need to identify and connect with what a Christ church stands for. Jesus being the centre!
Thank you so much sis & you’re absolutely right – the time has come 💯
