I had a delightful revelation recently when I discovered something remarkable: we possess the ability to contribute to our own healing. Can you believe it? The realisation that we hold such power over our own lives was nothing short of astonishing. 

This epiphany struck me when my psychologist emphasised that one of the primary objectives of therapy is to foster self-awareness and empowerment. Hearing this perspective completely blew my mind. 

Unfortunately, due to the financial strain, I found myself unable to attend therapy sessions for a period. However, this setback prompted me to explore more accessible methods of coping with life’s many stressors. To my delight, I found that these alternatives yielded incredibly positive results, especially during a time when such holistic approaches were increasingly embraced by society. Here are some practices that have been instrumental in maintaining my equilibrium: 




Yoga

 Every morning, following a gentle jog, I immerse myself in a rejuvenating yoga session. My journey with yoga commenced during my early days in the varsity and has since become an integral part of my daily routine. Notably, yoga played a pivotal role in aiding my physical recovery following a life-altering car accident, an experience I candidly share HERE.  

Music

Music has been a steadfast companion throughout my life, offering solace and companionship in moments of joy, sorrow, and everything in between. I find immense healing in selecting songs that resonate with my current emotional state, as if the lyrics are speaking directly to my soul. 

Writing

While I thoroughly enjoy engaging in verbal exchanges, I’ve always found solace in the written word. Writing serves not only as a means of self-expression but also as a tool for introspection and self-discovery. It allows me to pause, reflect, and gain clarity amidst life’s chaos. 

Reading

Similar to the way music speaks to me, I find inspiration and renewed hope in the stories of others. Whether through biographies, memoirs, or self-help literature, delving into someone else’s narrative and witnessing their journey of empowerment serves as a source of encouragement and enlightenment. 



Quiet Time

Last but certainly not least, I prioritise moments of solitude and tranquility. In the words of Beyoncé, I grant myself permission to say, “World, stop,” and indulge in some much-needed self-care. Whether it’s a brief nap or simply basking in the serenity of the moment, these quiet interludes rejuvenate my spirit and replenish my energy reserves.
