Pursuing a Love for Life

The idea of floating through life, taking things as they come, sounds simple – almost like the best approach. But is it really?..

I beg to differ. I believe in making an intentional choice to pursue a love for life – because that’s how we create a truly fulfilling experience! This is something I’ve felt strongly about since my born-days (yes, that’s an actual saying in these streets), and it makes perfect sense to me.

Think about it: you have a far greater chance of getting exactly what you desire when you actively pursue it, rather than just hoping it magically lands in your lap. Now, let me set the scene for you. It’s 2014. I’ve just survived a near-death experience (which I discuss in My Testimony), and as I begin the healing process, I find myself having to relearn everything – walking, talking, writing, even the simplest daily tasks that most of us take for granted!

Of course, this journey renewed my passion for life. Facing such a fragile reality made me deeply grateful for the gift of living – a gift we so often overlook. The truth is, we have no control over when or how our lives will end. Our time here is borrowed.

So tell me, how do you treat your gifts?

Do you cherish them with gratitude and care, or do you push them to the corner and forget about them?

Choosing to nurture a love for life has completely shifted my perspective. When I couldn’t do basic things – like taking a walk or swimming, it made me realise just how much I had been taking my life, talents, and abilities for granted. Here’s another truth: We are not alive by choice or merit, so what we make of our lives truly matters.

Therefore, I encourage you to wholeheartedly pursue a love for life! Making this choice has been one of the boldest moves I’ve ever made, because life? Oh, it’s tricky. It throws curveballs that sting, but here’s the thing: it’s not what happens to us that defines our fate, but how we respond to it.

Choose to love life, and I promise – life will love you back.

Yours (but mine first),

  1. Psalm 147:5: “Great is our Lord, and abundant in power; his understanding is beyond measure”. Aphsie! Aphsie! How proud and happy your mother, my sister Phuti would be, or should I say IS to see how you’re holding everything together about you LIFE! The overarching angel she is in your journey of life. Truly our God is great and His mercies endureth forever! Your mother and I “stole” you for me to take you for baby dedication in church by the then Ps Collins Dlomo, now the awesome Apostle of course. Phuti had to remain behind at home because she was forbidden to attend church then. Today I praise and honour our Jehovah Nissi, the Lord our victory. (Exodus 17:15). God bless you, babes.
