What a powerful title. “I Don’t Belong to You” is such a bold proclamation – especially to be made at such a young age. I’m incredibly grateful for the fellowship and affirmation Miss Keke Palmer gifted me through this book 🙌🏾
To be honest, I used to believe that only after going through years of hardship – hell and high water, as they say – could you earn the right to say: “No. I don’t belong to you. Leave me alone.” Before reading this, I truly thought that kind of clarity and confidence was reserved for elders. That, because I was younger, I had to conform to others’ expectations… live up to opinions that weren’t mine… and always seek external validation.
But this book gently pulled me aside and reminded me of two things:
1) I am a grown woman now, and
2) I get to decide what enters and stays in my life.
Keke’s writing feels like a conversation between sisters – raw, honest, and full of heart. And her playful use of emoticons? Made me feel right at home ❤️🔥
I highly recommend this book to every young woman stepping into her power. It’s more than a memoir – it’s a mirror, showing you who you are and how deeply your voice matters.
In fact, it’s this book that inspired the way I sign off my blogposts 👇🏾
Yours (but mine first),
